Troy Dannehower has died, leaving former players, friends, colleagues and members of the Seabreeze High School football community mourning the loss of a man who made a lasting difference in the lives of those around him.

News of Troy’s passing prompted an emotional tribute from someone who first looked up to him as a young football player and later had the opportunity to work with him.

The tribute recalled being just 11 years old and playing for the Ormond Beach Sandcrabs while looking up to players who had worn the Seabreeze uniform. For him, Troy was one of those football heroes.

Years later, that childhood admiration took on a much deeper meaning when he became the starting quarterback at Seabreeze. At a time when the young player doubted himself and questioned whether he would ever get an opportunity, Troy stepped forward as his quarterback coach.
